Thinking flaws Tuesday: Extroverts and Introverts
“Extroversion and introversion refer to where someone get’s their energy from. […] extroverts are energized through socialization and collaboration, whereas introverts receive energy from alone time or in social settings with much smaller groups”
I believe this statement is flawed. It is a superficial statement about what the so called extroverts and introverts are really up to. Extroverts are people who have a hard time to feel deeply connected, to feel part of a whole while introverts feel connected and part of a whole without much effort. Both get their energy from feeling connected.
The more aware people are of their connection to a whole, the less extrovert they become. There is less need to communicate and create connection because it is felt anyways. Also, being driven by Asperger’s or social anxiety or fear or loneliness is not the same as being an introvert. It’s a different topic. Introverts are driven by feeling connected just as much as extroverts.
Logically, the whole “getting your energy from” part doesn’t make any sense. We know that collaborating gives an evolutionary advantage to species. Plus, if extroverts where getting more energy from collaborating than introverts, then they would spend more time doing it and therefore get an evolutionary advantage over introverts. Introverts would disappear. This is not the case, if not contradictory to what we are witnessing.
The traditional way of thinking about extroverts and introverts is fundamentally flawed. I prefer my theory of extrovert’s and introvert’s different capabilities of deeply connecting with the whole.
