Sunglasses in Paris
Let me tell you, Paris is the hotspot for wearing sunglasses. I’ve a theory about that, which expands into, hats, earphones, headphones and when covid was still around, masks too. In their own way, they all cancel out the noise of 2.161 million people living together in one big city.
But lets focus on sunglasses here. Below you can see the bad boys I’m talking about: black frame, dark shades. I promise every Parisian has one of these with them at all times…(that’s a joke)
They cancel out the noise, which means that you are turning of one channel that otherwise would connect you to other people: the eye contact. In a more dramatic fashion we could say that wearing shades is a step towards isolation and an action that separates you from everyone else.
Think about it:
You are stoned: you want to hide your eyes cause you don’t want to have everyone staring at your red eyes. You are isolating yourself from the crowd instead of the crowd isolating you by judging you for being a stoner.
You are a fashion victim and/or want to stand out: being fashionable is about uniqueness and standing out. Them shades help you to take that extra step.
You don’t feel like interacting with anybody: put them sunglasses on and no one will be able to make eye contact with you. You successfully isolated yourself from the crowd.
You just want to protect your eyes from the sun: be honest, if that was your only motivation you wouldn’t wear them black frame, dark shades glasses.
There’s nothing wrong with wearing them bad boys. There’s nothing wrong with taking the action of isolating you momentarily either, it’s even necessary. It is funny though how obvious it is, when being in a big city like Paris, that people are not made to be on top of each other at all times. It is also another perspective on why earphones, sunglasses and hats are so popular whatever city you visit in the world. I would bet that the more dense the city - while everything else is equal - the more sales of these “isolation items” per inhabitant are happening. To verify…
